Earl "Herbie" Lucas

Earl "Herbie" Lucas July 01, 1928 June 26, 2017 Lucama............Earl Dixon Lucas, 88, went home to be with Jesus Monday, June 26, 2017 holding his wife and son's hands. He was surrounded by family. He was born July 1, 1928 in Wilson County to the late Jasper Lucas and Viola Lucas. He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. He worked in the local grocery store in Lucama and then went on to work with Pepsi Bottling Co. for 31 years, retiring in 1990. In addition to his parents, Earl was preceded in death by his brother, James C. Lucas. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, June 29, 2017 at 11:00 in Shingleton Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dewayne Eakes officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park. Surviving is his wife of 65 years, Doris Taylor Lucas; son, Kenneth Lucas (Emma) of Wilson; granddaughter, Missy Schmid (Ken) of Wilson; great grandchildren, Ava and Kristian Schmid; sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home and other times at the home of Emma High.
