Dianne Godwin Strickland February 07, 1941 June 26, 2014 Spring Hope...Dianne Godwin Strickland, 73, died peacefully at home on Thursday, June 26, 2014 surrounded by her family and loved ones. She was born on February 7, 1941 to the late Narvin and Mavis Godwin. Dianne was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She devoted her life to caring for her family and those she loved and continued doing so even in her final days. Diane is survived by her husband of 51 years, Clay T. Strickland of the home; daughters, Cathy Barnes and husband, Chris, Cindy Joyner and husband, Dennis. She was proudly known a ï¿Â½Boingyï¿Â½ to her five grandchildren, Logan Dianne Joyner, Nicole Grace Joyner, Seth Joseph Joyner, Caitlyn Elizabeth Barnes and Paige Mackenzie Barnes. Also surviving are brothers, Willie Eugene Godwin, Charles Randall Godwin and wife, Patsy, sister-in-law, Joan Bass Godwin and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, James Earl Godwin and sister-in-law, Betty Jean Godwin. Diane also leaves behind her sister-in-law, Violet Weathers, niece, Catherine Weathers, her friend and wonderful caregiver, Karen Matthews, family friend, Jordan Jackson, and her ï¿Â½bestest friendï¿Â½, Sylenna Edwards. All of whom devoted their time during the last weeks of Dianneï¿Â½s life to caring for her and laughing with her. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to the Tar River Basket Weavers, c/o Susan Legaj, 713 Eagle Terrace, Rocky Mount, NC 27804. Family and friends are welcome at the graveside service at Evergreen Memorial Park on Saturday, June 28, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. Ron Hawley officiating.
