James Woodrow Varnell, Jr. August 01, 1950 December 23, 2014 BaileyJames Woodrow Varnell, Jr., better known as J.W. to friends and family, age 64, died peacefully at his home on Tuesday, December 23, 2014. J.W. was born in Edgecombe County and lived in Bailey, NC. He enjoyed the great outdoors while operating heavy machinery for a local farm. J.W. was a lifetime lover of learning, reading and history. One of his favorite pastimes was reading or watching television while looking out over the fields from his patio windows. J.W. was preceded in death by his parents, Eunice and James Woodrow Varnell, Sr.; brothers, Royce and Larry Varnell and the love of his life, Marsha Statham. Memorial services will be conducted in the chapel of Shingleton Funeral Home on Saturday, January 3, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Jerry Nelson officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. J.W. is survived by sisters, Julia Page (Ray), Angela Stroud (Darrel); brother, Boyce Varnell (Sheila) and many nieces and nephews.
