Nernie Liles

Nernie Liles May 24, 1931 December 19, 2014 Sims..Nernie Liles, age 83, passed away peacefully in his home on Friday, December 19, 2014. He was born on May 24, 1931 and was a native of Nash County. At 19, he was drafted to serve in the US Army during the Korean War in Alaska. Later in life, he retired as a long distance truck driver. He enjoyed deep sea fishing, traveling with family, watching sports on TV, working in his garden and spending time with his church family. Of his many loves, his greatest love was his family. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and his many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Richard A. Liles. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Barbara Liles; son, Nernie R. Liles and wife, Jackie; daughter, Marilyn L. Owens and husband, Steve; five granddaughters, Casey Owens, Amanda Benton, Anna Niece, Sara Waite, Stephanie Efird and four great-grandchildren, Owen, Carl, Leah Blevins and Jaxson Benton. The family will receive friends at the home on Saturday, December 20, 2014 in the afternoon. Visitation will be held at Bailey Baptist Church on Sunday, December 21, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. The funeral will follow at 3:00 p.m. with the Rev. Darrel Davis officiating. The committal services will be conducted in Maplewood Cemetery on Monday at 11:00 a.m. Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to Bailey Baptist Church, 6646 Deans St., Bailey, NC 27807.
