GOLDSBORO – Barbara Harriet Scherer Walter, age 85, passed peacefully on Monday, December 1, 2025. Born in Concord, MA. on March 15, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Norman Lee Scherer and Dorothy Viola Mackinnon Scherer. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Dr. Robert “Bob” A. Walter, Sr.; her sister, Nancy Camley; and her brother, David Scherer.
Barbara graduated from Newton Wellesley school of Nursing in 1962, then went on to receive her Bachelor’s in Nursing from St. Joseph’s College in 1991. She worked at a host of Hospitals, Doctors offices, and Hospice until her retirement from Kitty Askins in 2012. She was a proud pastor's wife and together they served their communities through health care and teaching of the Lord. She loved her family both immediate and extended. She loved to travel and take vacations with as many families members as possible, especially to York Maine to see the Cape Neddick "Nubble" Lighthouse. She will be remembered by all of her family and friends for her loving nature, sassiness, and being a little bossy. She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Barbara is survived by her son, Robert “Buddy” A. Walter, Jr.; her daughter; Brenda W. Haverty and husband Earl; her grandchildren, Leigh F. Mooring and husband Charles, Brandon Fogle, and Robert Kyle Powell and wife Carman; her great-grandchildren, Cody Mooring, Cale Mooring, Lorelai Mooring, and Lillian Yeal Powell; her sister, Janet Tobey; and her brother Paul Scherer and wife Susan; along with a host of nieces and nephews.
A Graveside Service will be held on Sunday, March 15, 2026, at 3:00 PM at Evergreen Cemetery, 3888 US-70, Goldsboro, NC 27530 with Pastor David Fishman and Pastor George Fox officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
A reception will be held immediately following the service for friends and family at the Hampton Inn located at 905 N. Spence Ave., Goldsboro, NC 27534.
