Charlotte Beamon Obituary

Charlotte Jean Woodard Beamon

December 22, 1930 – August 9, 2020

Stantonsburg……Charlotte Jean Woodard Beamon passed peacefully into Heaven on Sunday, August 9, 2020.

Born in Wilson, NC on December 22, 1930 to the late Walter and Minnie Whitley Woodard, “Tootsie” was the youngest of five children. She was happy and athletic and served as co-captain of her high school basketball team, which laid the foundation for her lifelong love of the game.

She married the late Beasley Beamon on July 30, 1948 and settled in the Holden`s Crossroads area of Stantonsburg to start a family. She had three Children: Danny Beamon (Brenda) of Stantonsburg, Scarlet Beamon of Stantonsburg, and Jimmy Beamon (Lynn) of Stantonsburg.

When she wasn`t busy in the tobacco field or garden, she was busy in the kitchen, making sure everyone was fed and happy. Jean also loved serving her church, Saratoga Original Free Will Baptist, where she took meticulous notes as secretary of the Women`s Auxiliary, worked and led Vacation Bible School, and graciously directed generations of squirmy children in the children`s choir. Her favorite job was most likely “Granny” to her seven grandchildren, who she spoiled every opportunity she had; Amy Baker (Rob) of Clayton, Mike Beamon (Michelle) of Kenly, Tobie Girard of Stantonsburg, Gloria Roberts (Art) of Wilson, Karen Sullivan (Michael) of Selma, Wes Beamon of Raleigh and Haley Beamon of Chapel Hill. She was the proud great-grandmother to nine and had recently become a great-great grandmother.

Jean loved watching college basketball, making special note when Carolina played Duke. Every stray dog in the Saratoga area knew they could find a meal and countless treats from the hands of Jean. The family would like to thank Diane “Darlene” Wolford, who generously and lovingly cared for our mother. If you would like to memorialize our mother, please consider making a donation to Saratoga Original Free Will Baptist Church or the Wilson County Animal; Shelter. The family will have a private graveside service on Tuesday, August 11, 2020.
