ELM CITY – Christopher Daniel Barnes, age 46, passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at his Elm City residence. Born in Nash County, NC on June 22, 1978.
Chris had a tumultuous upbringing that brought struggles, but he always had the loudest and most boisterous laugh to follow up his own cheesy jokes (yes, his own jokes). He will be remembered for his kind and thoughtful spirit, one that always remembered your favorite snacks and movies to cheer you up, even if he couldn't always remember your birthday.
Chris worked in construction for about 20 years, taking pride in his work whenever he passed by a neighborhood where he had helped build the houses. Just graduating from automotive school at Wilson Community College in 2024, he planned to fix up cars. He was the handyman; whether it was a DIY building project or a broken-down car, his love language was to help.
Chris was preceded in death by some of the people he cared for most, his great-grandmother, Lelia Sessoms Gooch; his grandmother Anna Louise Gooch Whitley (aka Louise or BooBoo), and her cat LouLou.
Chris is survived by his two sons, Cole Barnes and Daniel Barnes (mother April Barnes); his daughter, DéShawna Williams; his half-brother, Matthew (Eric) Jackson; his nephew, Aiden Jeremiah Taylor, and his fiancée Mylene Pangilinan Hill. He is also loved and remembered by those close to his surviving family.
No public services will be held, per his wishes.
