Dirl Gene Denton Sr.

Wilson...........Dirl Gene Denton, Sr., age 85, passed away Sunday, November 29, 2015. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary "Peggy" Reid Denton; a sister, Beulah Mae Baker; and a brother, Raymond Denton. Dirl was a Korean War veteran, having served in the U.S. Army. He was retired as a Deputy with the Wilson County Sheriff's Department and was a 32nd Degree Mason. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, December 2, 2015, at 2:00 p.m., in the chapel of Shingleton Funeral Home. The Rev. Tim McFatter will officiate. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Woodard Elliott Denton; daughters, Elizabeth D. Leonard and husband, Edwin West, of Sims, and Dorothy O'Neal and husband, Charlie, of Farmville; son, Dirl Gene Denton, Jr. and wife, Donna, of Wilson; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Juanita Davis and Faye Denton, both of Wilson; stepchildren, Barbara Murray and husband, David, of Oxford, Larry Hawley and wife, Sara, of Wilson, and Julia Wheeler and husband, Bryant, of Charlotte. The family will receive friends Wednesday, from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m., at Shingleton Funeral Home and other times will be at home.
