Jeannette (Strickland) Garris

Jeannette Garris was a loving, compassionate, and faithful mother and grandmother. She passed away on October 7, 2025 at age 87. 

Jeannette was born to Worth and Elsie Taylor Strickland on June 1, 1938. Jeannette was one of seven children. 

Jeannette met the love of her life Johnnie Jasper Garris, who shared her birthday, and married and together they raised their sons, Danny and Johnny and daughter, Barbara. Jeannette was a homemaker and devoted wife and mother. 

Jeannette was a member of Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Wilson, NC where she attended faithfully and was active in Bible study, church trips, and other church functions. She could always depend on Sister Claudia "Peedink" Moore or Brother Jeff Lamm to ensure she was able to attend and worship her Lord and Savior. 

Jeannette is survived by her sons, Danny Garris and wife Gail of Wilson and Johnny "Johnboy" Garris and girlfriend, Lisa of Elm City; seven grandchildren, Danny Garris, Jr. of Wilson, Amie Whitehead and husband Will of Wilson, Michael Garris and girlfriend Lindsay of Elm City, Crystal Garris Gowen and husband Cameron of Wilson, Brandie Garris Black and husband Bobby of Wilson, Tracy McKeel and husband, Jarrod, and Jessica Garris of Fremont; thirteen great grandchildren, Michael Tyler Garris of Wilson, Logan Black of Wilson, Nickolas Gowen and wife Kristin of Havelock, Ashleigh Carico of Wilson, Tanner Denton and fiance Jenna of Wilson, Riley Tulppo of Wilson, Peyton Denton of Wilson, Shelby McKeel of Walstonburg, Gracie Gowen of Wilson, Kaelin Garris of Lucama, Brody McKeel of Walstonburg, and William Luke Whitehead of Wilson, and Carter Garris of Lucama; one great-great granddaughter, Ella Rae Raper of Lucama; siblings, Ruby Lucas and Kenneth Strickland of Wilson; and many nieces, nephews, and family friends. 

She is preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie Jasper Garris; daughter, Barbara Garris Luper; grandson, Harper Black; parents Worth and Elsie Taylor Strickland, and siblings, George Strickland, James Strickland, Dwight Strickland, and Geraldine Strickland Long.

Services to celebrate Jeannette's life will be held at Evergreen Memorial Gardens 2800 Nash Street Wilson, NC at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 10, 2025. The family will receive visitors after the graveside service and at other times at the home of Danny & Gail Garris at 4807 Lamm Road Wilson, NC.
