Joseph Russell Hancock February 20, 1927 August 13, 2014 WilsonJoseph Russell Hancock, age 87, passed away Wednesday, August 13, 2014. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Bridgers Hancock; second wife, Mary Lou Jones Hancock; a step daughter, Brenda Overstreet and two brothers, Cecil and Gene. He retired from the City of Wilson after working there 36 years. After retirement, he worked at WilMed Hospital and retired from there after working 15 years. He was a proud veteran after serving his country during World War II. Funeral services will be conducted in the chapel of Shingleton Funeral Home Saturday, August 16, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Tommy Hagan officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park. He is survived by his daughters, Deborah Moore of Wilson, Linda Shafer of Wilson, Esther Windham of Raleigh, Susan Graham of Blowing Rock; sister, Ethel Murray of Charlotte; brother, Roy Hancock of Goldsboro; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren.
