Joseph Lloyd "Rat" Williams October 28, 1926 March 03, 2016 Sims..................Joseph Lloyd "Rat" Williams, age 89, passed away Thursday, March 03, 2016. John 3:30, "He must increase but I must decrease." Rat flew away to be with his Jesus in Heaven. He was a member of the Bailey United Methodist Church. Rat was a simple man, full of love and compassion for everyone. Rat served honorably his country in World War II. He retired after 41 years from the NC Department of Transportation as Equipment Superintendent. Rat was preceded in death by his parents, Buddy and Bessie H. Williams; brother, W. B. Williams; sisters, Lizzie Bissette, Retha Goff, Pauline Gross, Dorothy Griffin, Joyce Murray; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Mender and James Harris Perry. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 53 years, Mavis Perry Williams. God gave them 14 years of courtship, a total of 67 years full of love and joy; sister, Shirley Dew (Bobby); brothers-in-law, Bruce Griffin, Prince Goff (Jean); many nieces and nephews to whom Rat was a great friend and loving daddy figure. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, March 06, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. in Shingleton Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Michael Coppock officiating. Interment will follow at The Williams' Family Cemetery, Old Smithfield Road, Sims. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. Rat's family appreciates and thanks all for their support, love, prayers and all their helping hands.
