Leon Edward Driver, Sr. passed from his earthly home on June 23, 2024 surrounded by his family. Leon suffered from Alzheimers Disease the last four years of his life, progressively getting worse. Even with the disease advancement he never once forgot the names of his four children, nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Leon was a supervisor and described as part of the foundation to his employer of over forty years, Statewide Sheet Metal and Roofing of Wilson NC. He retired from Statewide briefly and quickly returned back due to feeling bored sitting at home. He finally retired for good at the age of seventy seven. Leon had a deep love for his family especially his grand babies.
Leon was preceded in death by his mother and father, Louis and Maggie Driver; brothers ,Leslie “Dick” Driver, Connie Littleton; sister, Reba Sauls and grandson, Derrick Edward Driver.
Leon is survived by his loving wife and caregiver of Forty Five years, Audrey Driver; sons, Leon Edward Driver, Jr. of Elm City, William Driver (Christina) of Wilson; daughters, Missy Barfield of Lucama, Christie Hinnant (Shane) of Wilson; grandchildren, Patrick Perry (Jennifer) of Pinetops, Patricia Ellis of Pinetops, Ronald Barfield (Michelle) of Lucama, James Barfield of Lucama, Justin Joyner (Emily) of Wilson, Cameron Joyner (Kristen) of Wilson, Madison Joyner of Wilson, Kennadee Joyner of Black Creek, Avada Driver of Wilson; sister, Edith Futrell of Pikeville. Leon was also loved by many including special daughter-in-law Linda Perry of Pinetops and god-son Brandon “Jesse” James and thirteen great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at 7:00 pm at Shingleton Funeral Home 2413 Nash Street NW, Wilson, NC 27986 with Pastor Joe Shakour officiating with the visitation immediately following the service from 8:00 pm until 9:00 pm.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, June 26, 2024 at 11:00 am at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Elm City with Pastor William Furrell officiating.
Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Association.
