Raleigh Scott, Jr. Obituary

Raleigh Lee Scott, Jr.

October 11, 1933 – August 29, 2020

Elm City……. Raleigh Lee Scott, Jr. went home to be with the Lord at his home on Saturday morning, August 29, 2020.

Raleigh Lee was a native of Wilson County and graduated from Gardners High School. He met Mary Jean Tedder in 1960 and it was love at first sight. They were married in 1962. He was a devoted husband; a leader who could be depended upon in many ways. He was a member of Westmoreland PH Church. Being a farmer all his life, he loved the work he did and enjoyed the fellowship of many friends in his work along the way. Phillip Johnson, a dear friend and coworker was always there with a helping hand especially over the last few years. Audie Denton, a very dear friend that took him to many ball games, tournaments and especially his trip to the mountains in 2016 and always treated him like a father. Raleigh lee was beyond grateful for all of you.

He loved sports; baseball, basketball, and football and was supportive in watching nieces and nephews through the years when they played. He followed Fike football from the early sixty`s all the way through 2019; of course he was a diehard Tarheel fan and had the opportunity to attend some of their games with the help of two kind friends from the Grill that got him to Chapel Hill, and that certainly made his day. He also had a love for fishing and enjoyed many fishing trips with a few of his close family members. The “Grill” (Bridgersville) was his special place to go and until recently he was there every morning for breakfast, but mostly to sit and chat with his friends who were so special to him.

He loved his family and the get togethers with them through the years. He enjoyed his “talks” with his niece, Jackie and looked forward to chatting with her most every night. Many memories were made all through his life that will never be forgotten.

We will always remember that “infectious” laugh and his love for a life well lived.

The family would like to thank Community Home Care & Hospice for their loving care over the past few weeks and to the many family and friends that reached out to him, especially over the last few months, he loved each and every one of you.

A graveside service will be conducted Tuesday, September 1, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Maplewood Cemetery with the Rev. Ricky Nelms officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Raleigh Lee Scott, Sr. and Viola Matthews Scott; brothers, Douglas Scott and Millard (Mickey) Scott.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Jean Tedder Scott, his beloved “Belle”; niece, Jackie Scott Davis, several other special nieces and nephews; sister-in-law’s, Adelaide L. Scott, Myrtle W. Scott, Vara Tedder Matthis, Verdie Tedder Dunn, Yvonne Tedder Bass, Sally Tedder Hill, Joan Page Tedder, and Romona Tedder; brother-in-law`s, Luke C. Tedder, Marion V.
