Van Dwight Raper
October 16, 1945 – March 14, 2022
Van Dwight Raper, age 76, passed away Monday, March 14, 2022. Van was a Vietnam War Veteran and also a member of many other Veteran organizations, a member of The American Legion Post No. 13 for fifty plus years, a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 6651 and a member of Sons of The American Legion for eighteen years. Van was a co-founder of Aggressive Towing and a former employee of Mangum`s. He was the past president of Woodman of the World Lucama Chapter, a member of the NRA and an avid fan of the Wilson Tobs. He was also a member of Lucama United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Arthur and Lucille Barnes Raper; sister, Phyllis Monteith; brothers, David and Timmie Raper.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Cheryl Bass Raper of the home; sons, Kevin Raper (Beth) and Dwight “Whitey” Raper both of Lucama; sisters, Deborah Lawson (Bill) of Kenly, Lottie Raper of Pikeville; brothers, John Raper (Linda) of Kenly, Edward “Shorty” Raper of Goldsboro, Kenneth Raper of Pikeville and Steve Raper of Lucama; grandson, Aaron Raper (Karli Patrick) of Lucama.
Visitation will be held Thursday, March 17, 2022 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Shingleton Funeral Home and other times at the home of Van and Cheryl.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, March 18, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Shingleton Funeral Home with the Dr. Joe Stallings officiating. Interment will follow in Maplewood cemetery.
